Dr. Mary S. Shuman

MD., F.A.C.O.G.

About Me

Dr. Mary Shuman is very proud to have delivered more than 4,000 babies in the Fredericksburg community over the past 16 years. Before coming to this area, Dr. Shuman attended the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine where she graduated with honors in the top 10% of her medical school class in 1996. Ob/Gyn residency was next for Dr. Shuman at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. After residency, she joined Rappahannock Women’s Health Center and has remained active.

Dr. Shuman is a dedicated women’s health leader and advocate. She is board certified in Obstetrics/Gynecology and a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics/Gynecology. She was the chairman of the Ob/Gyn department at the hospital from 2005 to 2007 and has served on multiple hospital committees. In 2007, Dr. Shuman was appointed Chief of Women’s Services at Mary Washington Hospital. In December of 2019, she resigned that position to focus on expanding the RWHC office in Spotsylvania.

In addition to routine prenatal care and office gynecology, Dr. Shuman has spent more than a decade gaining specialized knowledge in women’s community care, collaboration with nurse midwives, menopause management, minimally invasive laparoscopic gynecology surgery, and high-risk obstetrics.

When not in the office or operating room, Dr. Shuman can be found volunteering, training for marathons, exploring new cities, reading history books, visiting art museums, or spending time with her husband and two beautiful children.
